President to open 22nd national Quran reading contest in Banten

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was scheduled to open the week-long 22nd National Quran Reading Contest (MTN) on June 17, 2008 in Banten city, Serang.

Banten governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah explained Religious Minister M Maftuh Basuni here on Friday that the preparations for the context is almost completed.

"God willing, the preparations will be 100% completed by the end of this month," Atut said, adding that the host had prepared accommodation and transportation for the contingents of the event.

"The preparations including catering are carried out transparently," she said, noting that the cost of the Quran Reading Contest totalled more Rp 32 billion.

Some 1,386 qoran resiters from 33 provinces in the country will take part in the event. (*)
